Karl Ruben (5. Dan Aikikai)

Born in Berlin in 1985, I first encountered Aikido at the age of 13 years. Already as a teenager I was immensely fascinated with this martial art and its philosophy. To gain a deeper understanding, I practiced at the Melbourne Aikikai with Bill Vintroux Sensei in Florida during a year-long student exchange. During this time, I also occupied myself with the Shorinji-Ryu Karate as taught by Jeff Thon Sensei.

After my return I started teaching several times a week on a regular basis. Ever since, I have also sought inspiration and regular exchange with other Aikidoka at diverse interational seminars.

Mainly, I orient myself on the renowned and well-respected Aikido teacher Christian Tissier (7. Dan) from France. Certainly different teachers have also influenced my education, such as Seishiro Endo, Tsuruzu Miyamoto and Masatoshi Yasuno amongst others.

The Swedish teacher Jorma Lyly and the French teacher Michel Erb have also been decisive for my development - I owe a great deal of my comprehension of Aikido to them. Furthermore I have trained several years with Jean-Marie Milleville in the "Aikido Dojo Südstern" in Berlin.

In January 2023, I was awarded the 5. Dan Aikikai. In the beginning of 2013 I founded the Kokoro Aikido Dojo Berlin. Here, I teach several times a week, passing on my experience in and passion for the wonderful art of Aikido.
